The export, which reached $1,514,486,467 with a 15% increase compared to the same period last year, was led by Trabzon with $1,183,889,624. In the region’s exports, Rize ranked second with $207,348,185, Gümüşhane ranked third with $67,407,717, and Artvin ranked fourth with $55,840,941.

While exports were made to 128 different countries from the Eastern Black Sea Region in 2020, this number increased to 138 in 2021. In 2021, exports were made to many different markets such as the Philippines, Ethiopia, and Bolivia, where exports were not realized last year. The top 5 countries with the highest exports from the region in 2021 were Italy with a 58% increase and $288,481,390, the Russian Federation with a 13% increase and $242,631,158, Germany with a 20% increase and $155,466,736, the People’s Republic of China with a 25% increase and $130,033,881, and Georgia with a 4% increase and $102,951,219.

Kalyoncu”There was a 15% increase in exports compared to the previous year”

Saffet Kalyoncu, Chairman of the Eastern Black Sea Exporters’ Association (DKİB), made an evaluation of the exports made in 2021 and stated that while Trabzon maintained its position among the cities that achieved exports of over $1 billion, it contributed the most to Turkey’s foreign trade deficit by only importing 7% of its exports. Kalyoncu stated that the export price per kilogram, which was $1.34 in 2020, increased to $1.37 in 2021 and said, “In 2021, despite the adverse effects of the pandemic in international markets, intense competition in international markets, challenging conditions, raw material supply problems, and high cost increases and interruptions in logistics, our regional exporters have shown a 15% increase in exports compared to the previous year by fighting relentlessly with these difficult conditions.”

“Improvements in support to provide competitive advantages to our exporters are necessary”

Kalyoncu emphasized that the largest input of the Eastern Black Sea Region provinces is generated from exports and said, “Despite all the difficulties in the markets, the efforts of our regional exporters, who have carried their production and exports without interruption even under pandemic conditions, are commendable and the biggest indicator of their love for their country. We would like to express our thanks to all our regional exporters and state that we are fully confident that our exporters will take our exports to much higher levels with greater enthusiasm in 2022. Our expectations and top priorities for 2022 are to ensure that our exporters have easy access to financing facilities, the implementation of a predictable exchange rate policy instead of excessive volatility in the exchange rate policy, the imposition of severe penalties for the container scarcity of exporters and the arbitrary practices and discrimination of logistics companies, the initiation of direct international cargo transportation by Turkish Airlines from our province of Trabzon, and the inclusion of our province and regional provinces in the 6 Region incentive system in order to make industrial investments more attractive. Our exporters, who have achieved a 15% increase in regional exports under the challenging conditions of 2021, will achieve even higher export successes in 2022, especially if support is provided in logistics and energy costs, which will enable them to maintain their competitive advantages. It should not be forgotten that the key to overcoming this painful process is exports, and exports make the biggest contribution to our country’s growth and employment, with exports being the largest input of the Eastern Black Sea Region provinces. Improvements are needed in the support provided to our exporters to ensure the sustainability of this increase,” he said.
